Job description:
Team head of curricular administration with teaching responsibilities for Jewish cultural history classes aimed at 5-13 year olds. Classroom experience with a concentration in cultural Jewish history preferred. Passionate administrator and good wordsmith in English. Experience with lesson planning, budgeting and grantwriting. Good writing, speaking and computer skills. Part-time, Sundays and flexible hours during the week. Good compensation. Yiddish and/or Hebrew language a plus. The candidate for this job is a self-motivated individual who recognizes the invaluable opportunity to deepen their experience in an emerging curricular field of second language acquisition and cultural studies for young people. This school is secular.
Duration:
• Part-time, 4 hours a week, Sundays, 9:30am-1:30pm
• Additional hours during the week for curriculum administration, meetings and class preparation
• school year consists of 22-24 class days and 5 holiday event days per year, beginning in September and ending in May
• annual review for renewal
Responsibilities include:
• administrating the school curriculum consisting of three areas: Jewish history and traditions, Yiddish language and Yiddish culture and arts.
• providing administrative support to a team of three teachers, including weekly tracking of lesson plans, materials and special project budgets, textbook searches, special project coordination, field trip planning and all material classroom needs
• acting as liason between teachers, parents and the school Executive Board, including planning of parent/teacher conferences and secular Bar/Bas Mitsve workshops
• collaborating with Executive Board when preparing fundraising proposals and correspondence
• teach classes in Jewish history and traditions
• reports to the School Director
• proxy for School Director during Director's absence
Skills required:
• good writing and speaking skills
• good computer skills and competency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel; Powerpoint a plus); familiarity with HTML and XTML a plus
• be able to understand, write and manage a financial budget
• classroom lesson planning for 5-13 year old students
• Yiddish fluency is not necessary to start. Training can be provided.
• Classroom teacher certification or professional equivilancy preferred.
